Spray Park Repairs Underway!

As you may recall, last summer (2023), we closed our Spray Park early. This was due to noting significant water loss from our Spray Park, prompting us to further investigate the source, which was found to be extensive cracking in the underground pipes that serve the Spray Park.

Expect to see (& hear!) construction as we undertake repairs on our Spray Park for anticipated reopening July 2024. We apologize for any inconvenience and disturbance to our guest experience throughout the repair process.

Update: July 25

Finish line in sight! Anticipated completion of the Spray Park repair project is late-July. Reopening date will be announced as soon as all approvals are obtained.

ANNUAL AQUATIC CENTRE SHUTDOWN:

It’s that time of year for our Annual Aquatic Maintenance Closure at the Jayman BUILT Aquatic Centre.

During this period, we will be hard at work, ensuring our facilities are in top-notch shape. We will be doing all this: draining, inspecting, repairing, upgrading, cleaning, refilling, training.

Plan ahead:
CLOSED: Tuesday Sept 3
REOPENS: Tuesday, Oct 1

Get ready for a refreshed and even more amazing aquatic experience once we are back in action!

New Turf Playing Surface Update

June 28 Update:

Our turf project will officially be kicking off on July 2nd with the pulling of the old carpet. From that time forward the turf will be closed until the project is completed!

Due to the end-of-life and lifting seams of our current turf surface, coupled with increased demand for year-round recreational play, SLS Centre will be completing a renovation of the turf playing surface this summer 2024.

Following consultation with our major sport partners and industry, new multi-sport flooring will be installed. This flooring surface is specifically designed to reduce the risk of injury, increase traction, and is suitable for a variety of sports. This new sports field will continue to accommodate sports currently played on the turf – soccer, lacrosse, and baseball – as well as optimize opportunities for futsal, volleyball, badminton, pickleball, and basketball. Two motorized dividing curtains will be added, creating the opportunity to divide the field into three playing areas, each measuring approximately 60 feet x 85 feet. Additionally, the current rink boards that face the main hallway will be replaced with an 8-foot-high tempered glass board system, maximizing the spectator viewing experience.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to welcoming you back to our improved fieldhouse soon.

New Jumpstart Play Courts Coming Soon!

An accessible multi-sport court facility is being generously donated to Cochrane by Project Jumpstart adjacent to SLS Centre.

This encompasses site grading to ensure proper ground preparation, the construction of sturdy foundations for play courts, and the establishment of an additional pathway connecting Riverfront Park to SLS Centre, enhancing accessibility between the two locations. Additionally, the installation of electrical service and lighting infrastructure is part of the plan to provide essential amenities for the facility.

Anticipated completion is late August.
