    • Discover STEM | Ages 6-10

Discover STEM! In this program, participants are introduced to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and will get the opportunity to produce several small projects.Program ScheduleSession 1Participants are introduced to the basics of electronics through interaction with several devices and activities. The culminating project is an ecard, which combines colouring with the design of an electrical circuit using LEDs.Session 2This session begins with a review of electronics from the first session. Afterwards, participants build a LED flashlight and discuss the design process and building structures. As a group, participants will build a geodesic dome that we can sit inside for the session's final activity.Session 3The session begins with a review of the importance of following directions in the building process. The project for this session is to build a working catapult. The catapult comes in a kit that requires careful assembly. The session concludes with an introduction to rockets and propulsion. It's pop bottle rocket time!Session 4Pop bottle rockets don’t fly worth a darn. Why? They need stabilizers! In this session participants will design and attach stabilizers to the rockets built in the previous session. Can we get a rocket to fly straight? Rockets use action-reaction to propel them, but what are other ways of making something move?Session 5This session examines the use of potential energy to move an object. The first activity will use the potential energy in a mouse trap to make a car move.Session 6The first five sessions covered air travel and ground travel, so the final session looks at water travel with boats. • Intro to STEM | Ages 11-15

STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. This program offers participants a hands-on introduction to both electronics and mechanical construction. In the electronics segment, participants will dive into the fundamentals of soldering and the assembly of electrical devices. Throughout the first three sessions, they will tackle four distinct electrical projects, starting with an electric car and gradually progressing to smaller, more intricate designs. The culmination of this segment is a challenging project that requires soldering a circuit board with more than 100 electrical connections. On the mechanical construction side, participants will engage in three exciting projects. The first is a mouse trap car, where they harness the power of a mouse trap and use CDs as wheels to create a dragster-style vehicle. Next, they will construct a medieval catapult, a sturdy design that utilizes rope torsion to launch its payload. Finally, participants will take on the task of designing pop bottle rockets. While it may seem straightforward, achieving a straight flight from a plastic bottle launched on an air compressor-powered pad presents a significant challenge.Class ScheduleWeek 1 - Introduction to soldering, build the electric car.Week 2 - Electrical components and soldering on a circuit board.Week 3 - Soldering the complex circuit board project. Week 4 - Building the mouse trap-powered car. Who’s will go the farthest?Week 5 - Build a medieval torsion catapult.Week 6 - Can you design a pop bottle to fly like a rocket?Instructor: Casey Wickert

    • Youth on Weights

Does your child or teen want to build strength and stamina? Pediatricians and youth specializing fitness trainers say it is both safe and beneficial to introduce young people to supervised, progressive weight training.Weight training is appropriate once a child can maintain balance and postural control and are able to listen and follow directions. This is usually around age 8 but it depends on your child's maturity level.Although children under 10 years may develop strength from training with weights, adolescents in the range of 12 to 15 years are usually the group who are the most interested. Your child should also want to do this activity and be prepared to train. Strength training for children is not weightlifting, powerlifting, or bodybuilding in their purest forms, which are aimed at competition. There are a few conditions where weight training is not recommended, including for children with uncontrolled high blood pressure, seizure disorders, or those who have undergone chemotherapy. Please email our fitness experts if you are unsure or if you have questions. This program is driven by one of our personal training fitness experts and is held in our Rocky Mountain Strength Studio. Please come prepared with comfortable clothing, water bottle and clean indoor running shoes (no boots, open toes, or crocs)

Teams begin the game with the same number of players on the field.THE GAME - The object of the game is to score the most points during a timed Match. Points are awarded for “hits” and “catches”. A “hit” against an opponent = 1 point. A “catch” is worth 3 points when an opponent’s arrow is caught in mid flight. When a player is hit with an arrow, they remain in the game and continue to play.BOUNDARIES - During play, all players must remain within the boundary lines.THE OPENING RUSH - Players take a position on their end line. Following a signal by the referee, players rush into the Neutral Zone to gather their arrows. Each team’s arrows are on their right. Players then return to their Action Zone to start shooting.ZONE RULES - Players are “live” only when in their Action Zone. They can only shoot or be shot when in their Action Zone (behind their Attack Line). Players are not allowed to shoot from the Neutral Zone and players cannot shoot at players who are in the Neutral Zone. Players in the Neutral Zone are only permitted to retrieve arrows and return immediately to their Action Zone. Players may not stall in the Neutral Zone and must return to their Action Zone within 10 seconds before a warning will be issued by the referee. A second infraction will result in a 2 point penalty at the discretion of the referee. 2 point penalties may be assessed for crossing over the opposing team’s Attack Line, stalling, shooting someone in the Neutral Zone, or being out of bounds.PAUSE IN GAME (TIMEOUTS) - The only timeouts are for equipment safety issues and injured players. On the rare occasion of an injury, immediately notify the referee to stop play and attend to the injured player.PLAYER CONDUCT - Players are to respect and adhere to the decisions of the referee at all times. Masks must be worn during game play. Respect all players. Bows and arrows are to be used only as intended for game play. Under no circumstance are bows or arrows to be used as a shield, or to knock arrows out of the air. Violent or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. Obscene language and/or gestures will not be tolerated.
