Our History

The SLS Centre was built by communityOn behalf of the Town of Cochrane and Rocky View County, the Spray Lake Sawmills Recreation Park Society manages and operates SLS Centre and the Cochrane Arena.

A group of dedicated community volunteers, in partnership with the Town of Cochrane, Rocky View County and hundreds of generous donors, achieved the dream of building a new hockey arena in Cochrane which is now known as Totem 1.

Spearheaded by the Society, the fieldhouse was added; indoor turf, double gymnasium, Garmin sponsored 3-lane track along with UCalgary Gymnastics Centre and Fireside of Cochrane Fitness Centre.

SLS Centre conducted its first major expansion, adding an additional two hockey arenas known today as Totem 2 and Totem 3.

In 2017, another major expansion took place, adding a curling centre, aquatic centre, tenant spaces and fitness amenities. These expanded and new spaces will serve its communities for years to come.

Our Title Sponsor - Spray Lake Sawmills

Early 2023, brought a new name and brand for our Centre, the ‘heart of the community’. We are truly grateful and privileged to continue our longstanding partnership with Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS). They were one of the driving forces behind this facility years ago and are a hallmark of this great community. We are honoured to call them our partner and naming sponsor. Spray Lake Sawmills has been in operation in Cochrane since 1969 and has become Cochrane's largest long-term employer providing extensive economic activity for hundreds of local and provincial suppliers. We whole-heartedly thank them for their continued support.
