A Timeline of Community, Growth & PartnershipScroll to time travel through the past 25 years of SLS Centre history!

2001

The Beginning of a Community Hub

Opened as the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre, the facility welcomed the community with a single rink, Totem 1. Built with the support of the community, this marked the first step toward a shared vision for sport and recreation in Cochrane.

2004

Meeting a Growing Community

As demand grew, in 2004 the Centre expanded to include an indoor turf, double gymnasium, track, and gymnastics space.

2009

More Ice time added

In 2009, two additional arenas—Totem 2 and Totem 3—were added, allowing more groups and Sport Partners to call the facility home.

2010-2015

From Space to Service

The Centre began delivering its own fitness, sport, and recreation programs, shifting from rentals to community-driven services. By 2015, all inclusive memberships were introduced, making health and wellness more accessible to everyone.

2017-2018

More Than Sport

2017: A significant expansion transformed the facility with the addition of the Jayman Built Aquatic Centre and Curling & Event Centre.

2018: New & expanded fitness spaces, and a climbing wall.
Tenant areas strengthened the Centre’s role as a destination for the entire community.

2023

The Heart of the Community

Reflecting its evolution beyond sport alone, the organization was rebranded as the SLS Centre. With continued support from Spray Lake Sawmills, the Centre reaffirmed its role as a hub for connection, wellness, and community life.

2025 & Beyond

Designed for What’s Next

Replacing the end of life turf to Sport Court opens new opportunities for sport and flexible programming. Purpose built spaces ensure the SLS Centre continues to grow & evolve with the community it serves.
